In the summer of 2010 a small group of farmers began lamenting the lack of connection between young, new and emerging farmers in Connecticut. It was conceived that a social network of emerging farmers in the state could provide the infrastructure for support, resource sharing, inspiration and energy in which the next generation of farmers in CT could meet across the lines of organic, conventional, first generation to seventh, from dairy to meat and vegetable producers.

The first ever NCTFA summit was held in February 2011 and we began to grow from there. A website, Facebook page, and list serve help to keep farmers connected and allow for the opportunity to share information and ask questions. We began hosting only a few farm tours per year and now host monthly farm tours and potlucks at various farms throughout the state from April through October. Connecticut Farmland Trust became our fiscal sponsor in 2013. We are governed by an all-volunteer Steering Committee of farmer members, the first of which was officially elected in February, 2014 at our first annual meeting. NCTFA is an affiliate of the National Young Farmers Coalition.
